ABSTRACT
This work aims to highlight the importance of the play for the special education. To that end, it is proposed to trace the historical path of the special education and of the inclusion process, discuss the importance of games and play for the development and learning of students with special educational needs and to propose recreational activities as a working methodology for the teacher in the classroom. Not always the teacher of special education has the specific knowledge for the development of students using the recreational resources present in games and play for the sake of learning of his/her students with special educational needs. We believe that, probably, the games may be useful in the intellectual development of students, since through play activities, children are encouraged in the teaching and learning because the play is a concrete activity that stimulates attention, socialization, motor skills and logical reasoning of the student. Thus, the recreational activities tend to facilitate concentration and attention in class because of their concrete involvement with the play material, justifying, therefore, the relevance of this research. After conducting extensive literature search and review of literature on the subject of study, we conclude that the act of playing must be fully explored in special education schools because their proven efficacy in cognitive development, social and emotional aspects of
