At the beginning of 1560 a group of Venezuelan indigenous from the Teques and Caracas tribes were alarmed by the arrival of unfamiliar people in the peaceful lands that had been their territory for centuries. The newcomers had opened their way through the vicinity of the Caracas valley establishing a basic camp marked with flags and extravagant standards nearby the indigenous sites. Their shielded chests, physical appearance and manners attracted the indigenous curiosity but they had already heard about their unfriendly intentions. These foreigners were desperately searching for gold and destroying anything or anyone in their way but the Indian chief Guicaipuro was prepared to end such aggression.
