Bulgaria´s Economical System during centuries XX-XXI

During the Republic, the Bulgarian Government elaborated according to traditional criteria, five-year plans that drove the country's economy until well into the 1970s. The technological advances of the 80s in the West, made obsolete the Bulgarian industry. Reforms undertaken at that time were timid and remarkably increased external debt.

In agriculture, two thirds of the country's land are devoted to the cultivation of cereals, mainly wheat, maize, barley, rye and rice. Industrial crops of snuff, cotton and sunflower represent a more profitable farm organization. In the process of land privatization, has undergone a major subdivision that has not benefited farms.
