Anorexia Nervosa is most likely known as an eating and psychological disorder. The word anorexia itself means “lack of appetite”. This disease is characterized by abnormal eating behaviors and severe weight loss. People who have this disease tend to have fear of gaining weight and refuse to maintain a healthy body. In anorexia, a person is obsessed by thoughts of a “perfect” thinness image and has an absolute fear of becoming obese. This occurs by starvation and excessive exercise and can result in death. Anorexia represents one percent of the most prevalent eating disorder diseases. There is more than one definition of anorexia nervosa; however they all describe the same problem.

There is no real answer to what causes anorexia nervosa. Researchers believe that environmental, psychological and physiological factors all play a major role in the happening of this disorder. Many scientists believe that the part of the brain called The hypothalamus has a part in the development of anorexia nervosa. Other researchers think that abnormalities in particular endocrine functions may be key to discovering the real cause of this fatal disease.
