Buscamos através do Batuíra mostrar um pouco da evolução do tratamento psiquiátrico no Brasil. O Instituto é filantrópico, recebe apoio do SUS e ainda depende de doações e trabalhos voluntários. Outro ponto a ser levantado neste trabalho é da humanização do tratamento a saúde mental e a inserção do paciente na família e na sociedade.

ABSTRACT

Written in the Book format report, this study aims to show the human face of mental treatment, telling the story, explaining and illustrating all the processes that are part of the psychiatric treatment of the Spiritist Batuíra Institute of Mental Health. The story of Batuíra is told through its patients, staff, volunteers and former staff, people who lived and still live near and inside what happens in there. We search through Batuíra, to show some of the evolution of psychiatric care in Brazil. The Institute is philanthropic, receives support from the SUS and still dependent on donations and volunteer work. Another point to be raised in this project is the humanization of mental health treatment and the insertion of the patient in the family and society.
