Chapter 1
Ellise Darby pulled the sitting room curtains aside and looked out the window. "What's taking themso long?"
'Who are you waiting for?" asked Mrs. Darby.
"Agnes and Fran," explained Ellise. "I didn't know you were interested in potholing," said Mr. Darby.
Remember when I took you to Kitley Caves? You hated being underground. "Why (lid you join the club?" asked Mrs. Darby.
"It was Agnes' idea," explained Ellise. Boys, boys, boys."
"Shut up!" said Ellise.
"Stop teasing your sister, Neville," said Mrs. Darby.
Ellise ran to open the door. Agnes and Fran were standing outside.
"Come inside," Mr. Darby called from the sitting room. Mr. and Mrs. Darby said hello to the girls. Ellise, Agnes and Fran had been friends since they …ver más…

""Wow!" called Ellise. "A whole cavern of stalactites and stalagmites! Fran and Agnes followed Ellise into the cavern. "It's just like fairyland!" aid Fran. Agnes shone her torch up on the roof of the cavern. Fran looked at her watch. Ellise shone her torch around the cavern. "That way, I think," said Fran. She pointed at the nearest passage.
"No," Agnes said.
CHAPTER 5
An hour later the three girls found themselves in an uncomfortably low, rocky passage. "We're in the wrong place," said Fran.
"Maybe we didn't recognise the right passage," said Ellise. "All right, let's go back," said Agnes tiredly.
"Go left," said Agnes. A little while later, the passage forked again.
"I wish Boris and Nigel were here," said Fran.
"We're lost."
"I have a little notebook," said Fran. "Do it," said Agnes. So Fran tore pages out of her notebook. Slowly, the girls made their way back to the last fork and went right.
Fran left a piece of paper at every bend.
"Face it, girls, we're lost. Really lost. About half of the club members were eating breakfast, but Agnes, Ellise and Fran weren't among them. "Maybe they've already left," suggested Boris.
Nigel leaned out of the window. Tm starving," complained Boris. "Let's go eat breakfast. Nigel and Boris went down the stairs. Nigel helped an older woman carry her suitcase to the car park.
"Have the girls from room 102 left?" asked Nigel the hotel keeper when he carne back inside.
Nigel followed Boris into the dining room.
